LeoLabs Unveils Scout Mobile Radar System

Written by: Leah Martin | April 9, 2025

LeoLabs, a California-based leader in space domain awareness and traffic management, has introduced Scout, a mobile radar system designed to enhance global satellite and debris tracking capabilities. This addition complements LeoLabs’ existing network of 11 radars across seven fixed locations, which collectively monitor over 23,000 objects, including debris as small as 10 centimeters.

Unlike traditional fixed installations, Scout is a compact, shipping container-sized platform that can be deployed worldwide, providing critical radar coverage in areas lacking orbital monitoring infrastructure. This mobility enables more comprehensive tracking of satellite launches and payload deployments, particularly in regions with increasing space activity.

LeoLabs plans to deploy the first Scout unit at its Indo-Pacific site within the year, with ambitions to establish a global network of these mobile radars. Discussions are also underway to position Scout systems on maritime vessels, extending monitoring capabilities over oceanic regions. Additionally, the company is developing Ranger, an advanced fixed radar system capable of detecting space debris as small as 2 centimeters, further bolstering efforts to maintain orbital safety.
