Zenithon AI, a UK-based company developing AI world models for extreme physics, today announced a $10 million initial funding round led by Backed, with participation from Seraphim, Lunar Ventures, MMC, SOSV, and founders and directors from leading hyperscalers.
The funding will support the development of the world’s first AI world models designed specifically for extreme physics applications, including spacecraft design, advanced propulsion systems, fusion energy and semiconductor manufacturing.
Zenithon is initially focused on fusion energy, where simulation speed remains a significant bottleneck to reactor design and optimisation. Success in fusion would provide a foundation for expanding the technology into other complex engineering disciplines.
“AI has transformed how we work with information, but its impact on the physical world is only beginning. As demonstrated by SpaceX’s Starship, we are rapidly moving towards a world of fully reusable launch vehicles. At the same time, a new generation of Earth return vehicles, hypersonic systems and advanced propulsion platforms is emerging. Understanding the extreme physics of re-entry, high-speed flight, heat transfer and plasma interactions will become increasingly critical as these technologies move into wider use,” commented Lucas Bishop, Vice President at Seraphim Space.
Engineers developing technologies such as rockets, fusion reactors and semiconductor fabrication equipment rely heavily on computational simulations to model the behaviour of heat, fluids, magnetic fields and other physical forces under extreme conditions. These simulations can take days or even weeks to complete, significantly limiting the number of design variations that can be explored.
Zenithon is developing AI models that learn how these complex physical systems behave, enabling engineers to evaluate vastly larger design spaces in a fraction of the time required by conventional simulation approaches. The company’s technology will eventually allow users to explore millions of potential design configurations in real time, accelerating innovation and reducing development cycles.
Bishop continued: “We believe Zenithon is building a powerful new toolkit for engineers working at the frontier of aerospace and defence, enabling them to explore more designs, move faster and unlock capabilities that would be difficult to achieve with traditional simulation alone.”
The London-based company was founded in July 2025 by Chief Executive Officer Alex Higginbottom and Chief Technology Officer Abetharan Antony. Higginbottom left his PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the Universities of Cambridge and Manchester to launch Zenithon, while Antony completed his PhD at Imperial College in 2023.
On top of model development, the funding will also support Zenithon’s plans to grow its team from 11 to 17 employees while accelerating its commercial activities in San Francisco and across the United States.
Alex Higginbottom, Co-Founder and CEO at Zenithon, commented: “Alongside AI, this century will be shaped by rockets, fusion reactors and fabs. Building the next generation means understanding and controlling increasingly complex physics. Today’s tools cannot keep pace: when a single simulation or experiment takes days, even the best engineering teams can explore only a fraction of the possibilities. At Zenithon, we’re building models to explore a million design points in the time it takes to simulate one, and to learn directly from real-world experiments. Engineers can search beyond familiar designs, discover new levels of performance and keep improving how their machines operate.”
Alex Brunicki, Co-Founder and General Partner at Backed: “We are delighted to be partnering with Alex and Abi as they develop SOTA Foundation Models for extreme physics. Advancements in fusion, hypersonics and chip manufacturing – critical industries for the advancement of humanity – are held back by the cost, speed and accuracy of current simulation and design methods and we believe Zenithon have assembled the best team globally to make breakthroughs in this area. We have seen first-hand how AI is revolutionising complex manufacturing through investments in companies like Flow, Olix and CloudNC. We believe Zenithon will have a profound impact on these industries and are thrilled to be partnering with this exceptional team.”
